Q.What is Diesel Power Plants?

🔹Diesel Power Station:-
Such type of power station in which diesel engines are used as the prime mover for the generation of electrical energy is called diesel power station.
•The diesel engine obtain energy from liquid fuel is known as diesel oil.
•The power station alternator is mechanically coupled to the diesel engine which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.

💱Advantage:-
•The design and installation of such a power plant is very simple and easy.
•This plant can be located at any place.
•It can be started quickly.
•It requires less quantity of water for cooling.
•It required less operating staff.

☢Disadvantage:-
•This plant can be generated only a small power.
•The cost of lubrication is generally high in DPS.
•The maintenance charges are generally high.
•Its life is very short.
•Its operating cost is very high due to the high cost of diesel fuel.

➡Application:-
•Central Power Station.
•Standby Power Station.
•Peak load plants.
•Emergency Plants.
•Mobile Plants.
•Remote Location

Q.  Why Diesel power plants are useful as a standby unit?

Ans:- Diesel Power Station are finding favor at the place where the demand of power is less, sufficient quantity of oil and water is not available and the transportation facility is inadequate that is why diesel power plant are useful as standby units.

Q. Why diesel power plant is used to produce small power?

Ans:- In the diesel power station the diesel engine is used and the prime mover. The diesel burns inside the engine and the product of this combustion act as a working fluid to produce mechanical energy. The diesel engine drives the alternator which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. Since generation cost of diesel power plants is very high due to the high price of diesel.
Thus, Such type of power plant is only used to Produce Small  Power.
